The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both closed at record highs on Friday. Hopes that peace talks between the U.S. and Iran gave financial markets a boost last week. Oil prices dropped following reports that the Iranian Foreign Minister was expected to arrive in Pakistan to have discussions about a possible second round of negotiations with the U.S. President Trump announced on Thursday that Israel and Lebanon agreed to extend their ceasefire by three weeks. Last week, the S&P 500 was up about 0.6% and the Nasdaq rose 1.5%, while the Dow Jones dropped about 0.4% decline.
Economic reports from last week came back mostly positive:
•Retail Sales - higher than expectation
•Pending Home Sales - higher than expectation
•Consumer Sentiment - higher than expectation
•Jobless Claims - higher than expectation
This week, investors will look for guidance from economic reports like Consumer Confidence, Housing, Gross Domestic Product, Personal Income and Jobless Claims.
