The Strength of the Market is: Strong
Stocks were slightly lower last week. Geopolitical and tariff fears eased. The stock market was down early in the week but mostly rebounded after President Trump called off his threats of tariffs on eight European nations, which were set to start February 1. In addition, President Trump announced that he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reached a "framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland." Last week, the Dow Jones was lower by 0.5%, the S&P 500 was down 0.3% and the Nasdaq fell 0.1%.
Economic reports from last week came back mixed:
•Construction Spending - higher than expectation
•Pending Home Sales - lower than expectation
•Gross Domestic Product - higher than expectation
•Personal Income - lower than expectation
•Consumer Sentiment - higher than expectation
•Jobless Claims - lower than expectation
This week, investors will look for guidance from economic reports like Housing, Manufacturing, Consumer Confidence, Labor Productivity, Personal Income, and Jobless Claims.
