The stock market remains on solid footing. Last week, the Dow Jones was up 1.74%, the S&P 500 gained 0.94% and the Nasdaq increased by 0.81%. The economy is still showing healthy signs with good retail sales numbers and the latest inflation data is raising hopes for a Federal Reserve interest rate cut next month. Stocks have been grinding higher, hitting new highs almost on a daily basis.
Economic reports from last week came back mixed:
•Small Business Optimism - higher than expectation
•Inflation (Consumer) - in-line with expectation
•Inflation (Producer) - higher than expectation
•Retail Sales - in-line with expectation
•Manufacturing (New York) - higher than expectation
•Consumer Sentiment - lower than expectation
•Jobless Claims - higher than expectation
This week, investors will look for guidance from economic reports like Housing, Manufacturing and Jobless Claims.
