The Strength of the Market is: Strong
After hitting new record highs on Thursday, stocks closed out the week slightly lower. Last week, the Dow Jones declined by 1%, the S&P 500 lost 0.3% and Nasdaq was down 0.1%. Tariffs were back in the news as President Trump announced tariffs of 35% on Canada, 50% on Brazil and 50% on imported copper. In addition, President Trump told NBC News that he was planning blanket tariffs of 15% to 20% on remaining countries. Investors are mostly shrugging off any worries around the latest tariff news.
Economic reports from last week came back mixed:
•Small Business Optimism - lower than expectation
•Consumer Credit - lower than expectation
•Jobless Claims - lower than expectation
This week, investors will look for guidance from economic reports like Inflation, Manufacturing, Retail Sales, Housing, Consumer Sentiment and Jobless Claims.
