Stocks had a shaky start to the new year. Last week, the S&P 500 finished down 0.48%, while the Dow Jones lost 0.60% and the Nasdaq Composite was lower by 0.51%. Stocks cooled in the final weeks of 2024. Although, they are still not too far from record highs. The recent weakness in financial markets are probably not the beginning of some sort of incredibly painful period for investors.
Economic reports from last week came back mixed:
•Pending Home Sales - higher than expectation
•Single-Family Home Vales - lower than expectation
•Construction Spending - lower than expectation
•Jobless Claims - lower than expectation
This week, investors will look for guidance from economic reports like Job Openings, Employment, Consumer Credit, Consumer Sentiment and Jobless Claims.
